SUPPLEMENT NUMBER 3:
Following is a list of IC identities found in the SIMBAD DATABASE that I believe
have errors of one kind or another. I have given a brief explanation as to why I
have arrived at concluding they have errors. Further expanded discussion can be
obtained for most of these identities by referring to either Dr. Harold Corwin or my
own IC Files.
IC0041. SIMBAD incorrectly equates it with MCG-03-02-035. MCG-03-02-035 is equal
to NGC 207, which is a different galaxy.
IC0045. Incorrectly equate with ZWG 500-073. It is a double star.
IC0071. Incorrectly equates with MCG-01-03-063. It is "Not found."
IC0077&IC0080. SIMBAD confuses these 2 identities and also incorrectly identifies
an "Anon" LEDA 4070, as being IC 80.
IC0097. Simbad gives the identity NGC 475, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0107. SIMBAD incorrectly makes it the 1st of 3 associated galaxies. It is the 3rd
of the 3 galaxies.
IC0228. Gives the identity NGC 944, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0233. Incorrectly makes it the fainter of a pair of galaxies. It is
the brighter galaxy.
IC0240. Incorrectly equates with NGC 999. It is a line of 4 faint stars.
IC0242. Incorrectly equates with MCG-01-07-026. MCG-01-07-026 is equal to
IC 243.
IC0254. Incorrectly equates with NGC 1065. It is an entirely different galaxy.
IC0258&IC0259. SIMBAD confuses both identities.
IC0376&IC0377. SIMBAD confuses both identities.
IC0462. Incorrectly equates with MCG+08-13-092. MCG+08-13-092 is equal to NGC464
IC 462 is a star.
IC0468. SIMBAD makes it a HII Region at coordinates that are nowhere near the
historical position, at which there are only a few faint stars.
IC0507. Gives the identity NGC 2590, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0543. Incorrectly equates with NGC 2902. IT is a star.
IC0621. SIMBAD selects the northern fainter of a pair. It is the southern,
brighter of the pair.
IC0625. Incorrectly equates with ESO501-069. It is equal to ESO 501-80.
IC0683. Incorrectly identifies it the south preceding of a pair. It is
the north following of a pair.
IC0736. Incorrectly equates with Hickson 59a. It is equal to Hickson 59b.
IC0737. Incorrectly equated with Hickson 59d. It is equal to Hickson 59a.
IC0757. Gives the identity NGC 4068, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0772. Gives the identity NGC 3067, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0793. Gives the identity NGC 4445, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0805. Gives the identity NGC 4611, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC0813&IC 3734. SIMBAD incorrectly equates these 2 identities. They are 2
separate galaxies.
IC0823. Incorrectly equates with NGC 4692. It is "Not found."
IC0839. SIMBAD incorrectly makes it the south preceding of a double system.
This double system lies north following the correct IC 839.
IC0853. Correctly identified as IC 853, but is not equated with IC 4205 which is
listed as "Not present in the database."
IC0897. Incorrectly equated with ZWG 102-016. It is equal to ZWG 102-020.
IC0898. Incorrectly equated with ZWG 073-031. It is equal to ZWG 073-032.
IC1004. Incorrectly equates with LEDA 51273. It is a different galaxy equal to
MAPS-NGP-0-441-0271979.
IC1005. Gives the identity NGC 5607, but omits the equivalent IC identity.
IC1088. Incorrectly identifies it as being the galaxy immediately south following
IC 1087. It is the faint star close north following IC 1087.
IC1090. Incorrectly equated with ZWG 221-022. It is "Not found."
IC1096. SIMBAD incorrectly makes it the 2nd of 3. It is the 1st of 3 galaxies.
IC1100. Gives the identity IC 1100, but omits the equivalent identity NGC 5881.
Instead SIMBAD makes NGC 5881 equal to UGC 09764, an entirely different
galaxy.
IC1122. Incorrectly equates with NGC 5931. It is a separate galaxy north
preceding NGC 5931.
IC1148. Lists as "Not present in the database," but lists it's equivalent identity
NGC 6020.
IC1172. Incorrectly identifies it as a galaxy at 16hr 06m 33.2s +17 46' 34" (2000)
It is actually equal to NGC 6044 at 16hr 04m 59.67s +17 52' 11.3" (2000).
IC1183. Incorrectly equated with IC 1184. It is equal to NGC 6044.
IC1190. Incorrectly equates with MGC 6061. It is an entirely separate galaxy at
16hr 05m 52.43s +18 13' 13.3" (2000).
IC1194. Incorrectly identifies it as the galaxy south following IC 1192. It is
the galaxy north following IC 1192.
IC1200. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is equal to NGC 6079.
IC1210. Incorrectly equated with NGC 6111, which lies about 43.5arcmin north
of the correct IC 1210.
IC1213. Lists IC 1213 and NGC 6172 as separate galaxies. They are equivalent.
IC1227. Lists as "Not present in the database." It is equivalent with NGC 6206.
IC1239. Lists as "Not present in the database." It is equivalent with NGC 6276.
IC1253. Listed as "Not present in the dtabase." It is equal to NGC 6347.
IC1280. Lists both IC 1280 and NGC 6581 as separate galaxies. They are equivalent
identities.
IC1316. Incorrectly equates with NGC 6901=IC 5000. It is "Not found."
IC1325. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is equal to NGC 6928.
IC1326. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is equal to NGC 6930.
IC1333. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is eqult to IC 1334.
IC1354. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is equal to IC 1350.
IC1828-29. Simbad equates these two identities. They are separate galaxies.
IC1525. Incorrectly equates with MCG+08-01-017. It is equal to MCG +08-01-016.
IC1642. Lists as "Not present in the database." It is equal to IC 1645.
IC1713. Incorrectly equates with NGC 587. It is a star.
IC1751. Equates it with "Anon." MCG +01-06-006. It is equal to NGC 741.
IC1814. Equates with "Anon." ESO 355-23. It is equal to NGC 964.
IC1907. Equates with NGC 1274. It is equal to NGC 1278.
IC1979. Equates with IC 1780. It is a double star south following IC 1780.
IC2026. Incorrectly makes it the preceding of 2 galaxies. It is the following of
2 galaxies.
IC2030. Incorrectly equates it with ESO 550-4. It is "Not found."
IC2062. Equates with NGC 1560. It is a star.
IC2063. SIMBAD incorrectly equates NGC 1563 with MCG-03-12-005. MCG -03-12-005 is
actually equivalent with IC 2063 and separate from NGC 1563.
IC2093. Equates with MCG+00-13-006. It is as star.
IC2120. Incorrectly equates with Minkowski's Planetary Nebula. It was actually an
observation of Comet 113P Spitaler (1890).
IC2137. Equates with NGC 1979. It is equal to a differen galaxy IC2138.
IC2175. Equates with UGC 03623, It is a double star.
IC2228. Equates with ZWG 032-048. It is a star.
IC2236. Equates with IC 2337. It is a star just off the preceding edge of IC 2337.
IC2351. SIMBAD incorrectly makes it the galaxy equated with UGC 04388, which is
actually NGC 2581. However, IC2351 is the star superposed on the south
preceding edge of NGC 2581.
IC2369. Equates with ZWG 089-027. This galaxy lies about 2 arcmin north of IC 2369
IC2374 Field. SIMBAD gives coordinates for IC 2374 of 08hr 28m 23s +30 25.0"
(2000) and equates it with ZWG 149-029, but this is IC 2376.
Meanwhile, what SIMBAD identifies as "ANON." 2MASX J0828365+3022513
IS ACTUALLY THE CORRECT IC 2376.
IC 2465. Equates with ZWG 121-069. This galaxy lies about 2 degrees of declination
south of the correct IC 2465 whose coordinates are 09hr 23m 32.626s
+24 26' 46.564" (2000).
IC2489. Incorrectly identifies what is IC 2487 as being IC 2489. IC 2489 is
"Not found."
IC2494. Correctly equates NGC 2947 and IC 547, however, for the 3rd equivalency
involved (IC 2494) it gives "Not present in the database."
IC2603. Types it as a star. It is Non-existent. (False image).
IC2613. Equates with NGC 3430. It is equal to NGC 3395.
IC2672&IC 2673. Incorrectly makes the single galaxy IC 2672, which is actually
a star superposed on the south end of IC 2673. For the identity
IC 2673 they lists as "Not present in the database."
IC2720&IC2729. Equates both identities. They are separate galaxies.
IC2751. Incorrectly equates with MCG+06-25-054, which is an extended galaxy close
south preceding the correct IC 2751.
IC2785. Incorrectly identifies it as IC 2786 while listing IC 2785 as "Not present
in the database."
IC2759. Incorrectly identifies the south following of a pair as being IC 2759.
It should be the north preceding.
IC2870. Lists as "Not present in the database." It is equal to UGC 06486 which
it does list.
IC2888. Listed as a galaxy at 04hr 59m 45.9s - 00 09' 27" (2000). It is a double
star.
IC2983. Incorrectly equates with NGC 4006. (See my IC Files).
IC2993. Incorrectly equates with MCG+06-27-006. It is a different galaxy.
(See my IC Files).
IC2997. Incorrectly equates with NGC 4090. It is "Not found."
IC3087. Incorrectly equates with NGC 4222. It is 2 stars.
IC3102. Incorrectly equates with NGC 4241. It is equal to NGC 4223.
IC3109. Incorrectly equates with ZWG 069-134. It is equal to ZWG 069-131.
IC3115. Incorrectly shows IC 3115 and NGC 4241 as separate galaxies. They
are equivalent identities.
IC3247. Incorrectly equates with NGC4338. (See my IC Files).
IC3265&IC3266. Incorrectly equates IC 3265 with IC 3266 and NGC 4353.
IC 3266 is equal to NGC 4353, but IC 3265 is a star.
IC3320. Lists as "Not present in the database." It is equal to NGC 4390,
which is listed in SIMBAD without the equivalency.
IC3323. Equates with IC 3329 and NGC 4393. It is a star superposed on the
south preceding edge of NGC 4393.
IC3428. Equates with NGC 4492. It is a star more than 15 degrees north of
NGC 4492.
IC3452. Listed as "Not present in the database." It is equal to NGC 4497,
which is listed in SIMBAD.
IC3495. Equates it with galaxy NGP9 F322-1823913. It is a star.
IC3496. Equates it with IC 3498. It is a star.
IC3524. Equates with LEDA 41859. It is a star.
IC3609. SIMBAD gives coordinates of 12hr 37.8m + 14 17.0' (2000).
Which are nowhere close to the correct position 12hr 38m 34.65s
+14 21' 09.3" (2000).
IC3645. Incorrectly equates with IC 3644. It is a star.
IC3716. Equates with IC 3719. It is either "Not found" or a star just
off the preceding end of IC 3719.
IC3808&IC3810. SIMBAD equates both identities. IC 3808 is a galaxy.
IC 3810 is a star.
IC3877&IC3881. SIMBAD gives for IC 3877 "Not present in the database," then
identifies as IC 3881 what is actually IC 3877.
IC3935. Equates it with LEDA at 12hr 58m 18.21s + 29 07' 43.2" (2000).
It is equal to NGC 4849 at 12hr 58m 12.74s +26 23' 47.9" (2000).
IC3942. Incorrectly equates with LEDA 44492. It is a star.
IC3961. SIMBAD makes it the galaxy at the correct position, but then makes
NGC 4861 a "Knot" at the south end of the image. The IC and NGC
identities are equivalent and both are for the galaxy as a whole.
IC4013. SIMBAD equates it with the fainter of 2 galaxies (NGC 4893). It
is a star.
IC4051. SIMBAD confuses the identities IC 4051 and NGC 4908.
IC4067&IC4068. SIMBAD confuses these 2 identities.
IC4112. Incorrectly equates with IC 4115. It is a star close South preceding.
IC4134. Incorrectly equates with LEDA 45169. It is equal to a different galaxy
(NGC 4920).
IC4199. Incorrectly equates with MCG+06-29-039. It is a star.
IC4371. Incorrectly equates with Hickson 70a. It is equal to Hickson 70b.
IC4394. Incorrectly equates with MCG+07-29-058. It is "Not found."
IC4404. Incorrectly identifies it as the faint galaxy close north following
NGC5547. It is a star north following the companion galaxy.
IC4412. Identifies IC 4412 and NGC 5594 as separate galaxies. They are
equivalent galaxies.
IC4441. Incorrectly equates with ESOLV 272-0110. It is an entirely different
galaxy, equal to IC 4444.
IC4528. Incorrectly equtes with MCG+08-27-049. It is equal to MCG+08-27-055.
IC4613. incorrectly equates with "ANON" KUG 1635+360. It is "Not found."
IC4615. Incorrectly equates with NGC 6197. It is equal to NGC 6196.
IC4616. SIMBAD places IC 4616 on a blank spot about 45 arcsec south of a galaxy
they identify as being NGC 6199, however, this galaxy is NGC 6197.
IC4948. Incorrectly equates with ESO 284-018. It is equal to NGC 6902.
IC4966. Incorrectly equates with the galaxy ESO 186-014. It is a group of 3 stars.
IC5000. Correctly equates with NGC 6901, but incorrectly equates it also with
IC 1316.
IC5058. Incorrectly equates with NGC 6963. NGC 6963 is a star while IC 5058 is
equal to NGC 6965.
IC5062. Incorrectly equates with MCG-02-53-006 (NGC 6968). It is a double star.
IC5079. Incorrectly equates with ESO 187-049. which is a cluster of galaxies
fainter than Mv17.0
IC5195. Incorrectly equates with NGC 705. It is a separate galaxy on the north
following end of NGC 7242.
